After a stormy week, Mother Nature finally gave us a weekend with decent weather, which allowed some to get out and enjoy time on the water. Many of the lakes and the Missouri River continue to produce fish and things should only get better.
With an abundance of submerged vegetation, bulrushes, and wild rice stands, the lake is built for panfish.
What you’re looking for is water that’s even just a bit warmer than anything else you have found.
River inlets and outlets always need to be on the must-check list.
During May, consider fishing shoreline areas that contain fist-sized rocks, riprap, and larger gravel. That’s probably where you’ll find walleyes.
Most of the really good reports on walleyes came from less than 10 feet of water, with strong action in as shallow as 2 to 5 feet in some areas as well.
